FCEPTA Board of Directors

I’m delighted to have the opportunity to serve on the FCEPTA – giving back to our wonderful community which includes a fantastic school system. My wife, Gloria and I moved to The Little City in 2018. We have two daughters: Claire who is attending MICA in Baltimore and Gwendolyn who is in 3rd grade.

I spent most of my life in the Detroit area, but have lived outside of Michigan this last decade – in St. Louis, Los Angeles and Falls Church. I graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Advertising and English and my professional career has been focused on marketing and communications in the automotive industry. I can often be seen running around town as I’m usually training for a marathon and enjoy building Halloween mazes and play structures.

The 2020-21 school year could be equally as unpredictable as 2019-20, and I’m excited to face the challenge and offer solutions to help deliver on the promise and goals for the FCEPTA. It is truly a fabulous organization that I have not experienced in any other school systems. I look forward to working with our amazing faculty and meeting you and your children.

Michael Sakata is the president and CEO of a regional trade association. He sits on a number of boards of directors involved in transportation infrastructure policy issues, including the Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Association in Maryland and DC, where he mentors and inspires high school students to pursue careers in the fields of transportation design and construction. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Decision Sciences/Management Information Systems from George Mason University’s School of Business and holds an executive education certificate from Yale School of Management.  Michael and his wife Brittany, have lived in the City of Falls Church since 2003, and have 4 daughters in the FCCPS school system.  He coaches a variety of youth sports in the area, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse.

I am looking forward to serving on the PTA board as the new Oak Street Elementary Room Parent liaison. I have lived in the City of Falls Church for the past 10+ years–my wife, Sarah, whom I met at Radford University, and I purchased our first home together here in 2010. Hailing from a small town in Ohio, the close-knit community ambiance of FCC made me feel right at home from day one. I’m a girl-dad to two Oak Streeters, Norah (4th grade) and Maddie (3rd grade). When I’m not spending time with my family or coaching soccer, I’m usually cycling, mountain biking, or running. I have over 15 years of experience in the association profession, primarily in member engagement and revenue generation. Thank you for this opportunity to support our incredible schools.

I am excited to serve on the PTA board for the 2021-22 school year! I grew up in North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Virginia and graduated from UVA. I’ve lived in the City of Falls Church for the past nine years with my husband Kenji, who I met during a study abroad program in London. I’m a mom to two children, Audrey (5th grade) and Benjamin (2nd grade). We all love the walkability, high-quality schools, and small-town feel of Falls Church. Currently, I work part-time as an editor for an educational association (IECA) and as a group fitness instructor for Balanced Female Fitness. I also enjoy co-leading my daughter’s Girl Scout troop. I look forward to working on the PTA board again this year to support our wonderful schools!

I’m excited to serve on the FCEPTA board for the third year! As a “military brat,” I grew up moving frequently, but Northern Virginia became my home. I stayed in the area after high school and graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor’s in Information Technology. After many years of working in the IT field, I decided to stay home full-time with my kids. My husband and I feel very fortunate to have found such a great community in the City of Falls Church. Our children, Madeline (9th grade), Jacob (5th grade), and Ethan (3rd grade), love their schools and have made great friends. Thank you for the opportunity to serve on the FCEPTA board. I look forward to working with a great team and community.

It’s my pleasure to serve as Treasurer for the PTA.  I am a Certified Public Accountant and my day job is working as a CFO for a membership association. I have a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Maryland.  I grew up in Colorado and moved to the DMV in 1999. After living in DC for more than 20 years we moved to Falls Church City in search of a safe community, excellent small schools, and kind and empathetic neighbors and friends.  I have two children, Josephine (10th grader), and Sylvia (4th grader). Like most of you, I watch a lot of little league, soccer, and basketball games. I’m an avid hiker and I love playing board games.

I am looking forward to joining the FCEPTA Board as Secretary next year and getting to know more FCC families! I am from Baltimore, Maryland, attended Duke University, and then moved to Northern Virginia for work and graduate school. My husband, Kabir, and I moved to Falls Church City in 2012 and feel very lucky to have landed in this wonderful community. We have two daughters, Aarya (rising 5th grader) and Vaani (rising 1st grader). When not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and being a part of our kids’ activities. I have volunteered as a room parent and member of the Day Care Advisory Board for the past few years, and am looking forward to now working with the PTA to support our schools in the coming year.
